Overview

A 640×512, 12 μm uncooled LWIR module shown with the 25 mm F1.0 fixed-focus athermalized lens — 50 Hz imaging, SDI/MIPI video output, RS422 control, and a 9.1–75 mm fixed-lens series. Originally developed for a customer-specific vehicle imaging project, it is now available as a MODO configuration.

Project Background

MODO-VT-640-50 originated in a customer-specific vehicle imaging project. The resulting configuration combines a 640×512 uncooled LWIR core with fixed-lens options, SDI/MIPI video and RS422 control rather than treating the detector as an isolated component. It is now offered as a MODO configuration whose optics, output and connector choices can be aligned with the target integration.

Key Features

Engineering profile

  • This page shows the 25 mm F1.0 athermalized fixed-focus configuration; a 9.1/13.5/19/25/35/55/75 mm fixed-lens series is available, with SDI/MIPI video output configured per program.

Key capabilities

  • Detector: VOx Uncooled LWIR
  • Resolution: 640×512 @ 50 Hz
  • Pixel pitch: 12 μm
  • Spectral band: 8–12 μm
  • Thermal sensitivity: NETD ≤45 mK @ 25 °C

Image processing and control

  • Scene and shutter-based non-uniformity correction, image enhancement, white-hot/black-hot polarity, bright-light protection with a programmable radiance threshold, reticle display/hide, flip and electronic zoom, auto/manual brightness and contrast, self-test, and serial firmware upgrade.

Customer Problems Solved

A thermal channel for day-and-night observation

Vehicle and mobile observation systems need image information when visible-light cameras are limited by darkness or changing illumination.

The 640×512 uncooled LWIR channel provides 50 Hz thermal imaging, with scene and shutter-based non-uniformity correction and image controls for system integration.

Matching field of view and video interfaces to the host

A fixed camera configuration can force compromises between viewing geometry, the host video input and the control architecture.

A 9.1–75 mm fixed-lens series supports different viewing requirements, while SDI/MIPI output is configured per program and RS422 provides serial control.

Power, mechanical and optical-head integration

Integrators must account for power demand, installation space and protection of the optical head instead of evaluating detector resolution alone.

The documented 25 mm configuration uses DC 5.0–5.5 V with ≤6 W consumption, measures 46×40×71.93 mm at ≤300 g, and specifies IP67 protection for the optical head.
