Overview

640×512 polarimetric LWIR module at 7μm pixel pitch. Detects camouflaged targets and discriminates materials by polarization signature. CameraLink, 45×45mm.

Project Background

MODO-PL-640-50 brings a 640×512, 7 μm polarimetric LWIR detector, CameraLink video, RS232 control and a 45×45 mm module format into one configuration. It is intended for OEM and research systems that need polarization information alongside thermal imagery, with optics and system-level processing matched to the application.

Key Features

How Polarimetric LWIR Works

  • Man-made surfaces emit thermally polarized radiation due to their smooth, uniform geometry.

Key Features

  • 7 μm pixel pitch — highest spatial sampling in the product range
  • Polarimetric discrimination — reveals camouflaged targets against natural backgrounds
  • 45×45 mm compact format — adaptable to research instruments and specialized payloads
  • CameraLink interface — industry-standard for scientific and industrial imaging

Customer Problems Solved

Limited contrast in intensity-only thermal images

A target and its background can have similar thermal intensity, leaving little separation in a conventional intensity-based LWIR image.

Polarimetric LWIR adds polarization signatures as an additional information dimension, helping reveal man-made surfaces when thermal contrast alone is limited.

Camouflage and surface-material discrimination

Camouflaged objects and visually similar surfaces may remain difficult to distinguish when the system relies only on thermal brightness.

The module provides polarization-signature data for evaluating target/background separation and material differences, rather than relying on a single intensity channel.

Scientific acquisition and control integration

Research instruments and specialized payloads need a defined digital acquisition path, module control and a mechanical envelope that can be designed into the host.

CameraLink supports standard scientific and industrial image acquisition, RS232 provides module communication, and the 45×45 mm format gives integrators a compact mechanical starting point.
