The SPECTRA PL06 is a specialized polarimetric long-wave infrared imaging module. Unlike conventional thermal cameras that measure only emission intensity, the PL06 measures the polarization state of thermal radiation — providing a unique discrimination channel for camouflage defeat, material identification, and surface characterization.
How Polarimetric LWIR Works
Man-made surfaces emit thermally polarized radiation due to their smooth, uniform geometry. Natural backgrounds (soil, vegetation, rock) emit predominantly unpolarized radiation. The PL06 exploits this contrast to reveal man-made objects that may be thermally invisible in conventional LWIR imagery.
